Day 2 Innsbruck
After breakfast we’ll travel to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, for a guided tour. Stroll through the enchanting old town and marvel at the “Golden Roof”, the city's iconic landmark. Situated in the Inn Valley, and rich with Habsburg heritage, Innsbruck offers a blend of historical and modern attractions. Ride the Hungerburg cable car before taking the gondola to Seegrube, sitting at an altitude of 1,911 meters and offering extraordinary panoramic views of the valley and Alps. Today we’ll drive to Lake Achensee in the Karwendel mountains. With an area of 6.8 km², it is the largest natural lake in the region known as the 'Sea of Tyrol'. Enjoy a serene boat cruise on its strikingly clear, turquoise-blue waters surrounded by majestic mountains. Afterwards, we’ll visit Rattenberg, Austria’s smallest town and known as the 'glass town' due to its glassblowing tradition and numerous glassworks. On an included visit to the historic house of the Kisslinger glassblowing workshop, you’ll be offered an insight into the world of glassblowing and discover the superb craftsmanship that goes into the production process of every item produced here. Today you can savour a leisurely breakfast and enjoy the facilities at the hotel or take the opportunity to explore a little more on our optional excursion to Oberammergau and Ettal.Nestled in the Bavarian Alps, Ettal is perhaps most famous for its magnificent Ettal Abbey featuring Baroque architecture and beautiful frescoes. On a guided tour, we’ll discover more about the Benedictine monastery that was originally founded in 1330.
Just a short drive away, we’ll arrive in Oberammergau. Every ten years, this small village captivates visitors with its world-famous Passion Play, a tradition that dates back to 1634. On your way through the village, you’ll see the “Lüftlmalerei”, exquisite frescoes that adorn the facades of houses and buildings. We’ll have time in the Oberammergau museum, one of the oldest museums that offers an insight to the cultural history of Bavaria. Here you can marvel at intricate masterpieces crafted by skilful woodcarvers. Meals included: B,D
Day 5 Niederau - at Leisure
We have left today free for you to relax and explore at your own pace, or you may like to join our optional Excursion to the South Tyrol. The journey to the Italian Tyrol promises stunning scenery, and upon arriving in the charming town of Merano, we will enjoy a walking tour uncovering the rich history and unique culture of this beautiful location. After the guided tour, take some time to explore Merano at your leisure to soak in the local atmosphere. The adventure continues with a visit to Bolzano, where you will have free time to discover its vibrant streets, charming shops, and inviting cafes with Italian charm.The charming town of Merano is known for its thermal baths but enjoy a guided walking tour to discover more of this beautiful location and its history. There is time to explore at leisure and soak up the local atmosphere – why not head to the historic centre where a blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Art Nouveau architecture create streets lined with elegant buildings, arcades and medieval structures.
Later, we’ll continue on to Bolzano, the capital of the South Tyrol where you can witness a fusion of Italian and Austrian influences - from beautiful squares reminiscent of Italian piazzas to quaint cobblestone streets. You’ll have free time to discover the unique shops and perhaps stop for a relaxing coffee or refreshing glass of wine. Meals included: B,D
Day 6 Salzburg
A full day visit to Salzburg and Hellbrunn Palace is on the cards today. In Salzburg, wander through the historic Old Town which sits in the shadow of Hohensalzbug Fortress. Stroll down the Getreidegasse, the famous shopping street – look up to see the beautifully ornamental guild signs that protrude from the building’s facades. Along this street, at Number 9, is Mozart’s birthplace – a magnet for many visitors to Salzburg. Cross over the river to the picturesque Mirabell Garden and Palace to take in the beautifully manicured gardens, ornate statues, and the elegant palace, which offer a tranquil setting and perfect photo opportunities.The excursion continues with a visit to the magnificent Hellbrunn Palace, famous for its whimsical trick fountains and grand architecture. Enjoy a guided tour of the palace and its grounds, learning about its fascinating history and the stories behind its creation. Meals included: B,D
